This is the mounting strap that holds a rubber edge on either the 54” or 60” Deere QH front plow. You use this strap to clamp our rubber plow edge to your 54” or 60” Deere front plow. We offer this strap in either mild steel or UHMW, to meet our clients needs.

Please note, this is the clamping strap to hold our rubber plow edges on your Deere front mounted plow. This strap DOES NOT and should not be used to clean the pavement directly. The strap you select, either in mild steel or UHMW holds the rubber edge on the plow. That’s why we call it a “Clamping Strap”.

Which customers would need this plow edge mounting / clamping strap?

These straps are most often ordered by our customers who have a 54” Deere plow which they have used to clear pavement and they don’t want to use their steel edge that is worn sharp, as the sharp edge on the strap will damage our rubber plow edge.

Any customer who is installing a rubber plow edge on their Deere front 54” or 60” Quick Hitch plow and didn’t order it with their rubber plow edge. Or, this is for our customers who are using our rubber edges on these plows and either damaged or lost their edge clamping strap.

Which strap is best for customers use, the steel strap or the UHMW strap"?

It depends, as some customers want the strap to be steel while other prefer the UHMW strap. This is why we offer customers a choice of the strap. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each mounting strap?

Steel Clamping Strap to install our rubber plow edge

Advantages of the Steel Clamping Strap-

  • Less expensive as the steel costs about 1/6th the cost of the same size UHMW material.

  • Familiar to most people, and easy to install.

  • The steel strap is machined to hold the carriage bolt heads to secure the rubber edge beneath this strap.

  • Can hold the carriage bolts in the machined slots without any additional hardware or specialty fasteners. We include the hardware for you to install the new strap with the rubber edge on your plow.

Disadvantages of Steel Clamping Straps -

  • Will get scratched and scraped with use and require paint touch up to avoid rusting.

  • The steel clamping straps can get twisted, bent and otherwise damaged with normal plow use.

  • Heavier than UHMW but at this size, the weight isn’t a problem, just a product difference.

UHMW Plow edge clamping straps to install the rubber plow edge

Advantages of UHMW Plow edge clamping straps-

  • Very strong plastic which is tough to damage with normal use

  • No paint or powder coating ever needed as UHMW is solid through color.

  • Lightweight and easy to handle and install.

  • Fully machined to make bolt installation easy. We machine rectangular slots in the UHMW to hold the carriage bolt heads when installing.

  • Very unlikely to damage with normal use because of the materials strength and flexibility in its design.

Disadvantages of the UHMW Plow edge clamping straps

  • More costly material than steel which makes the UHMW strap cost higher than steel.

All of our Steel and UHMW clamping straps are made in two pieces which are 1” narrower than the plow width.

We do this for these reasons.

  • Easier to ship in a package that is half the plows normal width.

  • This avoids oversize shipping charges.

  • Easier to install when working alone and also allows more rubber plow edge adjustments with the clamping strap being two sections.

  • This protects the ends of the strap should the edges of the plow strike any solid objects when clearing snow.

Important Difference Between the

Deere QH 54” Plow and the Deere QH 60” Plow

On the Deere 54’” QH front plow, the steel strap along the bottom of the plow is the plow edge that clears the pavement when the plow is used to clear snow. This same steel strap can be used on new, unused plows, to secure our rubber plow edge on the plow.

We discourage the use of the previously used 54’” Deere front plow edge straps or edges to hold the new rubber plow edge because the worn edge of the steel strap will damage the new plow rubber due to its sharp edge.

Deere QH 60” Plow

On the Deere 60” QH front plow, the steel plow edge on the 60” Deere plow CAN NOT be used to hold a rubber plow edge on the 60” plow. The 60” Deere plow steel edge which comes on the plow, is too large to allow it to properly hold the 60” Deere plow rubber edges.

If you have a 60” Deere QH Front plow and order one of our rubber edge kits, our rubber edge kits will include the plow edge mounting strap. However, if you don’t order the kit with the mounting strap or you otherwise need a plow edge strap, we offer the 60” Plow with either a steel or UHMW Plow edge Strap.

In Summary……..

If you have a NEW, unused Deere 54” QH Plow, you can use the steel plow edge which came on the new plow, to hold your rubber edge on the plow. We discourage using worn steel plow edges from the Deere 54” plows, because the sharp edge will damage the rubber edge.

On the Deere 60” Front QH Plow, the steel plow edge on the Deere 60” plow can NOT be used to hold a rubber plow edge as the steel edge is too large and won’t provide the proper clearance for the edge to work correctly.

If you have a 60” Deere Front QH Plow and want to install a rubber plow edge, either order the complete rubber edge kit from us with the strap or if you have our rubber edge and your plows strap is damaged or lost, then our UHMW or steel clamping strap for the rubber plow edge is what you need.

The important difference in a “Clamping Strap” and a “Steel plow edge”.

It is crucial to keep in mind the differences when considering these products.

  • Clamping Straps are designed to hold either the rubber or the UHMW plastic edges on the Deere plows.

  • Clamping Straps are not intended to be used to scrape the pavement for snow clearing.

  • Steel Plow Edges are specifically made to scrape the pavement and remove snow and ice.

  • Steel Plow Edges are thicker, heavier and more robust to scrape snow and ice from the pavement

  • Steel Plow Edges are generally too large (tall) to properly clamp the rubber or UHMW edge, which is why Edge Clamping Straps exist.

What you will receive when you order our Steel Clamping Straps to install our rubber plow edges.

  • The 54” plow steel strap is 1.75” tall, 53” long and 1/8” thick.

  • The 60” plow steel strap is 2” tall, 59” long and and 1/8” thick.

  • Made from mild steel, the mounting holes are cut into the strap with square holes to hold carriage bolt shanks.

  • Painted black, this strap is made into 2 sections to reduce shipping costs, to keep this products price low.

  • The 54” plow Strap ships with (10) 5/16” x 2” carriage bolts, lock nuts and flat washers which are corrosion resistant.

  • The 60” Strap ships with (12) 5/16” x 2” carriage bolts, lock nuts and flat washers which are corrosion resistant.

  • Clamping Straps are Not sold to be used as a plow edge for pavement clearing. This is a clamping strap to hold the rubber or UHMW plow edge material under it, to the plow moldboard.

This strap is intended to be a

  • replacement multi section metal strap for an OEM one which was lost or damaged.

  • clamping strap, not a PAVEMENT edge clearing strap.

  • If you have any questions, please contact us for additional details.

What you will receive when you order our UHMW Clamping Straps to install our rubber plow edges.

  • The UHMW strap for the 54” Deere plow is 1.5” tall, 53” long and 1/2” thick.

  • The UHMW strap for the 60” Deere plow is 2” tall, 59” long and 3/4” thick.

  • Made from UHMW, the mounting holes are cut into the strap with square holes to hold carriage bolt shanks.

  • The UHMW is a solid color through the material and will never need to be painted or powder coated.

  • The 54” Strap ships with (10) 5/16” x 2” carriage bolts, flange lock nuts and flat washers which are corrosion resistant.

  • The 60” Strap ships with (12) 5/16” x 2” carriage bolts, flange lock nuts and flat washers which are corrosion resistant.
